Freedom and Justice Party’s Darrag Warns of Fake Constitution Copies Being Distributed
Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, Secretary-General of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) in Cairo, said that 90 percent of the articles of the new Constitution represent a major leap in the history of this homeland, and that putting the constitution to a popular referendum will end all constitutional declarations and the exceptional circumstances that required them.
Beltagy said, "The formation of the Constituent Assembly (CA) was based on the March 2011 referendum; articles of the draft Constitution now put to a referendum were agreed upon in the CA; and all the suggestions made by members who pulled out at the last moment were taken into account in writing the final draft.
"The new constitution clearly solves the problems of building churches and freedom of worship of divine religions. Also, freedom of thought and opinion is guaranteed with regard to publishing, as well as freedom of expression and creativity.
All freedoms are guaranteed with clear unambiguous texts in the new Constitution, except for defamation and libel criminalized by law, which have nothing to do with freedom of creativity or freedom of opinion.
Meanwhile, in a press statement Tuesday, Dr. Amr Darrag, CA Secretary-General, said: "Some people are currently circulating fake printed and electronic versions of the new Egyptian draft constitution. These fake versions contain totally fabricated articles, certainly not included in the latest draft constitution put up for referendum.
"The only real version is currently available on the official website of the Constituent Assembly, which will be printed and distributed as soon as possible.
