French FM meets with MB and other representatives

During a press conference French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe described separate meetings as fruitful. He had met with Supreme Military Council head and Defense Minister Hussein Tantawi, the representatives of the Coalition of Youth Movements and Arab League Secretary-General Amr Mousa.

Juppe highlighted that he had met with a group of representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood in what he described was interesting dialogue that shed new light on the ideas of the group. He supported the idea of much more discussion stressing it  is worthwhile to properly understand in full the ideas of the Muslim Brotherhood and to inquire some more into their suggested concept of liberal Islam.

Juppe confirmed that France will be re-sending tourists to Egypt and would also assist in the creation of small and medium sized enterprises to help generate more job opportunities in the country. He added that France and other European countries will discuss other possible ways of extending help within the infrastructure of the Union for the Mediterranean, which was launched in 2008.

The French top diplomat, however, said that his country was willing to give careful thought to any demands that might be forwarded by Egypt. Juppe stated that the role of France is to extend when asked a host of issues including in the political and social spheres.

During his visit to Cairo at Tahrir Square Juppe paid tribute to what he labelled was the spirit of liberation and expressed the support of France for more liberties.
