Ghoul: Gaza to host international conference on prisoners
GAZA, — The Gaza Strip is to host an international conference to support the issue of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation jails next October, justice and prisoners minister in the Palestinian government Mohammed Al-Ghoul revealed on Sunday.
He added in a press statement that the conference’s timing would coincide with the first anniversary of freeing 20 Palestinian women prisoners in return for a two-minute videotape on captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit proving that he is still alive.
The minister said that the conference would be the first of its kind and would invite tens of Arab, European and international figures including international law experts in a bid to internationalize the issue of prisoners and to condemn the Israeli occupation for committing war crimes against them.
Ghoul said that a special committee was formed to prepare for the conference, noting that it already started contacts over a month ago to mobilize the biggest possible number of supporters to ensure its success.
