Ghoul asks HRC to check IOA violation of prisoners’ rights

GAZA, — Justice minister Mohammed Al-Ghoul has asked the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) and Richard Falk the United Nations human rights rapporteur in the occupied Palestinian territories to assume their moral and humanitarian duties towards Palestinian prisoners.

Ghoul told a press conference in Gaza on Tuesday that the new Israeli occupation authority’s (IOA) measures against Palestinian prisoners would lead to an explosion within its prisons.

He attributed the IOA step to its failure in handling the prisoners exchange deal and to its attempt to evade internal pressures in this respect.

The minister asked the national and Islamic forces and all Palestinian public and official institutions to unite and hit the streets in solidarity with prisoners in retaliation to such an escalation.

Ghoul urged the human rights groups not to be content with condemnation but rather to pressure the world community and UN organizations in order to pressure the IOA into halting such practices.
