Haaretz: Shin Bet uses physical, psychological torture on prisoners
Israeli Haaretz newspaper reported Monday that Israeli Shin Bet interrogators employ psychological pressure and physical torture to extract information and confessions for crimes attributed to Palestinian prisoners.
The newspaper mentioned that prisoners are treated harshly until they give confessions, even if they are given under force.
Haaretz quoted a number of the people investigated as saying that investigators, who speak Arabic fluently, use insults and threaten to violate prisoners’ honor and families and ruin their reputations.
One prisoner said he was physically abused and remained in a cell no larger than two square meters, with a toilet in one corner and a faucet which pumps water for only ten seconds after applying pressure on it, and remained therein not knowing night from day, and no way of telling what time it is.
