Hamas: European statement does not meet Palestinian people’s aspirations

GAZA– The European Union’s statement on a political solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and future of occupied Jerusalem does not meet the aspirations of the Palestinian people, Hamas said.

Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, the Hamas spokesman, told the PIC on Tuesday night that the EU must play a role to restore balance to the international position regarding the Palestine cause.

Hamas welcomes any step in support of the Palestinian rights and accepts the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders without recognizing Israel on any part of the occupied Palestinian lands, the spokesman elaborated.

The EU foreign ministers agreed on Tuesday that Jerusalem should be the capital of two states: Israel and the future Palestinian state within a “peaceful settlement” to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
