Hamas: Israel not interested in peace with the Palestinians

RAMALLAH, (PIC)– The Hamas Movement on Saturday reiterated its conviction that Israel was not interested in forging peace with the Palestinians and cited as proof the latest statement of Israeli president Shimon Peres.

Hamas, in a statement in the West Bank, said that Peres”s description of PA chief Mahmoud Abbas as a leader without legitimacy among his people and unable to carry out any security agreement proved that the Israeli leaders only want a Palestinian leader capable of implementing their security needs even it meant that he would run contrary to his own people”s wishes.

The Movement wondered what the Palestinian negotiator was hoping for after such statements.

Peres”s statement is a message to those who unilaterally negotiate with “Zionists away from their people”s wishes,” Hamas underlined.

“Zionists only respect strength,” it said, noting that resistance in Gaza had imposed its conditions “out of strength and the enemy acquiesced to those conditions after a de facto evaluation of its interests and security of its settlers and soldiers.”
