Hamas leader calls for Arab MPs to support reconciliation
MP Dr. Khalil Al-Hayya, a member of the political bureau of Hamas, has asked the visiting Arab parliamentarians to back the Palestinian reconciliation efforts in a bid to cement a solid internal political partnership. During a reception party organized by the Palestinian legislative council on Wednesday before the delegates’ departure, he said that Hamas was insistent on concluding reconciliation.
Hayya described the internal differences as a “summer cloud” that would soon pass away.
Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya, attended the reception, and announced the release of 20 Fatah leaders in honor of the visiting parliamentary team.
In the West Bank, Hamas MP Mona Mansour appreciated Haneyya’s step, hoping that the Ramallah authority would reciprocate.
Mansour asked the Ramallah authority to stop the “oppressive” military trials of political detainees in the West Bank.
She described the situation in the West Bank as a “legal mess” where violation of freedoms and sanctities is on the rise.
