Hamas Leader Calls for Reconciliation With Fatah, Praises Prisoners’ Swap Deal With Israel

Hamas’ political bureau chief, Khaled Mashaal, stated that the success of prisoners’ swap has created a welcoming atmosphere for reconciliation. He confirmed, “An invitation has been forwarded to Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas initiating a settlement between both factions in Cairo”.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday in Cairo, he added, “The success of the negotiations between Hamas and Israel and the swap of prisoners is an aspiring moment in Palestine’s history."

He added “Today we open a new page through patience and sacrifice paid dearly by the Gazans.”.

Mashaal praised the role of the Egyptian intermediaries who succeeded in pulling the deal through. “This achievement is not beneficial to any particular faction but is a triumph for all the Palestinians and a fine model for unity”.

Describing the Israeli’s policy of exiling the released prisoners from Palestine, Mashaal condemned the notion. He addressed the released prisoners reassuring them, “You have travelled to the welcoming arms of Cairo but rest assured you will very soon be returning home to your families. There is no substitute for your homeland and the Israeli’s must acknowledge this”.

Speaking to the prisoners remaining in captivity, he vowed that their release will be in the very near future and welcomed the newly released prisoners among their family and on their native soil.
