Hamas Vows to End Resistance if Israel Withdraws to 1967 Borders

Ismael Haniah, the head of Hamas parliamentary bloc, said his movement is ready to renounce resistance if Israel withdraws to borders of 1967 and releases prisnoers. Hamas is also willing to announce 15-year truce with Israel, a proposal that has been introduced previously by the group’s founder, late Sheikh Ahmed Yassen.

In an interview with a Greek liberal newspaper, Haniah remarked that Israel owns a military power that exceedingly surpasses the capacity of Palestinians. ’Does anybody think that Palestinians with mere guns are able to destroy Israel that possesses more than 200 nuclear warheads? Do we ruin Israel or is it Israel that is destroying us?’ he wondered answering a question on the prospects of the peace pace in light of Hamas call for Israel abolishment.

’Thanks to our furious fight, Israel pulled out from Gaza. One day they will withdraw from the West Bank,’ Haniah commented on the international pressures on Hamas which made stunning victory in January 25th elections.



As for the new government, Haniah said:’ it will be a government for all Palestinians.’ He asserted that Hamas will not get involved in a conflict to control the security apparatus. He called on establishing a Palestinian army, a motion that is totally rejected by Israel.
