Hamdona: Prioritize the issue of sick prisoners
The director of the prisoners center for studies, Ra’fat Hamdona, has called for prioritizing the issue of sick prisoners in Israeli occupation jails since a number of them were in serious condition.
Hamdona, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that following up the cases of those sick prisoners is one of the most important demands of prisoners who embarked on a series of protest steps this month including hunger strike.
He said that tens of appeals arrive to his center from relatives of those sick prisoners, expressing deep concern at the condition of their sons in light of the Israeli prisons authority’s medical neglect.
The director said that such neglect is a flagrant violation of the international agreements that guarantee treatment and preserving lives of those prisoners, adding that many prisoners had died as a result of such neglect.
Hamdona championed world pressures on Israel to allow specialized doctors into its prisons to check on those prisoners. He also appealed to the human rights groups, Palestinian government and the media to expose the Israeli occupation’s violations against those prisoners.
