Heshmat: FJP Seeks Consensus in First Parliament Session
The General Secretariat of the Egyptian People’s Assembly (PA) has announced that its first session – to be held on the first day of the new parliament for 2012, on Monday – will be comprised of three sub-sessions.
The day’s agenda states that first sub-session tasks include reading text of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) Resolution No. 199 for 2011, which invited voters to elect members of parliament, and its Resolution No. 300 for the same year, which invited the People’s Assembly to convene and Resolution No. 43 for the year 2012, which appointed members of parliament. This first sub-session also includes the swearing-in of the new members, and election of the PA Speaker.
Second sub-session agenda includes announcement of the PA Speaker election result, and electing the PA Speaker’s two deputies. Third sub-session tasks include announcement of the two deputies’ election results.
Dr. Mohamed Jamal Heshmat, a member of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) National Committee, said that the greatest thing to come out of the first day’s procedural sub-session is the broad consensus among all parties and the decision to distribute roles and positions to everyone based on fair criteria.
In a statement to Ikhwanweb, he said that such consensus and the state of harmony among all parties are the first message from the parliament and a message specifically from the FJP, the majority party, that it does not seek selfish acquisitiveness, but – rather – seeks everyone’s participation, performance and assistance in shouldering the burden of the responsibility.
Dr. Heshmat pointed that the second session of the parliament will be convened on Tuesday. He expressed the hope that it is dedicated to the martyrs and to claiming just punishment for their killers, saying: "Without the blood of the martyrs this parliament would not have been possible."
