Heshmat Urges All Egyptians to Participate Positively in the Constitutional Poll

In a statement to Ikhwanweb, Dr. Gamal Heshmat, member of the National Committee of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) and former deputy of the dissolved parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, called all Egyptians to cast their ballots in the referendum on the draft constitution.

Dr. Heshmat pointed that the current draft constitution gives Egyptians abroad rights that did not exist in any Egyptian constitution ever before, and that it safeguards the Egyptian people’s freedoms and rights.

"Voting ‘Yes’ for the constitution will help achieve the Democratic transformation we all long for, and will certainly aid the building of State institutions and protect the rights of citizens at home and abroad."

Dr. Heshmat further assured that the referendum will be a decisive moment in the history of Egypt, and has already made it clear to all, as to who wants stability and progress for Egypt and who wants to further ignite the crisis, and cause chaos and confusion.

"In every referendum or election, Egyptians abroad were always a real indicator of and motivator for voting at home."

Earlier on Wednesday, Egyptian embassies and consulates abroad received thousands of Egyptian expatriates who cast their votes in a referendum on the first Egyptian constitution after the January 25 revolution.

In Egypt, the referendum will be held over two days, from 8AM until 8PM.

The elections committee supervising the referendum said it is not registering any new details. Those who are already registered, since the presidential elections, are alone entitled to vote in the referendum.
