Human Rights NGO: 2978 Killed Outside the Law Since 2013
In its regular half-yearly reports, the Egyptian Coordinating Committee of Rights and Freedom (ECRF) has published a special report of cases of extrajudicial killings it documented during the first half of 2016.
Along with that report, ECRF mentioned that the total number of people killed outside the framework of the law since 2013 – and until the end of the first half of 2016 – reached 2978 citizens, distributed as follows:
In 2013, 2466 Egyptians were killed
In 2014, 244
In 2015, 210
In the first half of 2016, 78 citizens were killed.
Methods of such extrajudicial killings also varied during this period as follows:
2581 people (including 10 journalists) were killed in protests
91 were killed by torture
180 by medical neglect
17 on university campuses and dormitories
7 by death sentences (capital punishment)
