Husseini: Egyptian Parliament Rejects Incumbent Government
Saad Al-Husseini, Chairman of the Egyptian Parliament’s Plan and Budget Committee and a member of the of Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Parliamentary Commission, said that the Ganzouri Government persists in its political intransigence, challenging popular will and refusing to resign even though the entire nation condemns it.
Moreover, Husseini explained that 347 lawmakers in parliament voted against the continuance of the Cabinet in power, adding that that is more than 95% of MPs present in the session.
“This evidently means that all political trends and currents within the parliament reject the government totally, without exception.
“The utter rejection of Ganzouri Government, under the venerable dome of Egyptian parliament, is a clear message to the incumbent government: all hues and segments and denominations of the Egyptian people want this government to resign or be dissolved.”
Husseini further pointed out that the ball is now in the court of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), which is now in a real test.
“It can either favor the popular will and sack the Cabinet – if it wants to implement true democracy – or keep the government despite being rejected by everyone. If SCAF chooses the latter option, it would contradict the people’s will and ignore parliament as well as public opinion.
“This ensures that SCAF does not exist in political life after the 30th of June. If it holds onto the Ganzouri government, SCAF will certainly lose its mandate to rule this country.”
Husseini concluded, “With all due respect for its role in the protection of the revolution, SCAF needs to comply with the pledge they made to the people. They must go back to their real and most important role of defending the borders of this homeland, in accordance with the constitutional declaration”.
