Imprisonment of Mr. Nour is politically motivated

MB chief, Mr. Mohamed Akef, denounced the latest conviction and sentencing of Mr. Ayman Nour, chairman of Al Ghad Party, to five years in prison on charges of forging petitions as purely political.  In his remarks to a Japanese Press agency, Mr. Akef stated that while there are numerous and real crimes committed during the last election such as voters intimidation, assaulting judges and altering the results, but those crimes have not even been investigated!. During his interview, Mr. Akef repeatedly denied any current dialogue between the MB and US administration, “I have nothing to do with those reports that emerge every once and a while concerning any dialogue” Mr. Akef stated. He reaffirmed the MB stance on this issue that such dialogue with the US administration will only be under the supervision of Egypt’s State Department.
On the limited influence of MB members in the parliament facing a vast majority of the ruling party members, Mr. Akef clarified “ we enter the parliament to demonstrate our values and introduce our vision on domestic and foreign affairs as well as our vision on political reform” “ We know we are a minority in the parliament, but this will not hinder us from introducing bills for new laws or supervising the government, something that should enrich political life in the parliament” he added.
