Indonesia calls for Palestinian national unity, castigates Israeli occupation
The international humanitarian conference on the support of victims of the Israeli occupation in Palestine kicked off in the Indonesian capital Jakarta Friday under the title “End the occupation for a better life” with the participation of about 300 NGOs from 25 Islamic countries.
The conference was held under the auspices of Indonesian president Susilo Yudhoyono. Foreign minister Hasan Wirayuda stressed in an inaugural address delivered on behalf of Yudhoyono the importance of the unity of the Palestinian people to face the dangers threatening their just cause which is considered the Muslims” central cause.
Head of the conference and a member of the Indonesian parliament Dr. Soeripto called for lifting the injustice inflicted on the Palestinian people as a result of the Israeli practices of daily killing, arrests and attacks on holy places.
For his part, MP Al-Muzmal Yousef read a letter written by Dr. Aziz Dweik, the PLC speaker imprisoned in Israeli jails, in which the speaker deplored the international silence on the injustice done to the Palestinian people, calling on the international community to urgently move to save the Palestinians from Israel”s arrogance.
Sheikh Ekrema Sabri, the head of the higher Islamic council in Jerusalem, highlighted the dangers posed by judaization in the holy city and the other occupied cities, pointing to the grave impact of the Israeli siege on Gaza which claimed the lives of more than 250 Palestinian patients.
The participants are discussing several topics at the conference about ways of supporting the Palestinian people who live under the yoke of occupation.
