Interior Ministry Orders dismantling of State Security
Tuesday witnessed The Ministry of Interior announcing a decree to completely eliminate and dismantle the State Security Investigation Service in response to one of the demands by the protestors and political opposition in Tahrir Square.
According to the Ministry a new sector, labelled the National Security Sector will be formed inside the Ministry and will be responsible for maintaining national security to provide defence against terrorism.
The statement issued by the Interior Ministry stipulates that the new organization will be expected to operate in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, the law, and the principles of human rights and freedom. New officials and officers for the department will be selected during the upcoming days.
