International Anti-Coup Pro-Democracy Alliance Press Release: ‘100 Days of Coup’ Advertisements

IACPDA (The International Anti-Coup Pro-Democracy Alliance) has commissioned a series of advertisements which will appear in leading European newspapers, beginning with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on October 14, 2013.

In the winter of 2011, the entire world watched in awe as the Egyptian people rose peacefully and with dignity in a people’s revolution that ousted a dictatorship after three decades of tyrannical repression.

Now, the world does not even watch – it turns its back – as a brutal military coup, headed by an unaccountable and corrupt junta reinstates a dictatorship worse than ever before.

In only 100 days following this coup and the kidnap of Egypt’s first democratically elected president, the junta have established emergency law and achieved the following:

– Thousands of civilians killed, including women and children

– Thousands arbitrarily arrested, imprisoned and tortured (including foreign nationals)

– At least 140 minors and 240 women in detention

– Tens of thousands of innocent civilians injured

– 6 Egyptian and international journalists killed

– 80 journalists under arrest

– A 23.3% rise in inflation since June 30

– Loss of over one billion USD in the tourism sector.

The IACPDA advertisement campaign marks the passing of 100 days of murderous military rule and to raise global awareness of the current crisis in Egypt. The IACPDA demands that the world asks its collective conscience:

1) Should we accept a military junta over democracy?

2) Should we be funding and investing in a military junta that has already failed – after only 100 days?

3) Should we stand by and condone the complete erosion of human rights, freedom of assembly, press freedoms and a campaign to terrorise any opposition to the July 3 coup?
