Int’l campaign: All Israeli trials against Palestinian MPs violate int’l law

GAZA, — The international campaign for the release of prisoners stated Wednesday that all trials held by Israel against Palestinian lawmakers are null and void and violate international law.

The campaign called in a press release on the international community to put an end to Israel’s violations against elected lawmakers inside and outside its jails, affirming that the lawmakers are also harassed by Israeli troops after their release.

These remarks were made after Israel decided to reschedule the release of Jerusalemite lawmaker Mohamed Abu Teir at the pretext of the Jewish holidays.

Teir was supposed to be released today after he completed his 43-month sentence. He was detained many times before by Israel and spent intermittently a total of 30 years behind bars.

Israel already issued a court decision to withdraw his Jerusalemite ID card unless he resigned from the Palestinian legislative council.

For its part, Al-Ahrar center for prisoners’ studies confirmed the news, saying that MP Teir is expected to be released on Thursday (tomorrow) after he spent 43 months moving from one prison to another.

In a related event, a soccer match was organized Tuesday in Gaza in solidarity with the Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails between two teams, one represented ministers and lawmakers and the other played on behalf of prisoners.

The match took place on the sidelines of the championship of martyr Khalil Quqa and was organized by the higher national committee for the support of prisoners and the military sport union.

During his participation in the match, minister of prisoners’ affairs Mohamed Al-Ghoul called for organizing such events that contribute to highlighting the issue of prisoners and the Israeli violations committed against them and their families.

Ghoul said this sport event was aimed to send a message to the world that the Palestinian officials in Gaza are standing by the prisoners in Israeli jails by all ways and means and also to convey their suffering to all athletes and sport fans at home and abroad.
