Islah Party Announces Decisive Storm Support

The Yemeni Congregation for Reform (YCR) issued the following statement:

Noting the recent and ongoing events and developments in our homeland, YCR’s General Secretariat witnessed the results of the Houthis’ hard-headed attitudes, their rejection of national dialogue and their use of force to impose their vision on the Yemeni people and political stakeholders.

The Houthis’ vanity and belligerence led them to execute a coup against legitimacy, imposing house arrest on the legitimate elected President as well as the head and members of the technocrat government agreed upon. They also disrupted state institutions’ official business and invaded and took control of various areas.

The Houthis also continued their assault on the provinces of Lahij, Taiz, Dhali, Abyan and Shabwa, as well as their other assaults and attacks, killing innocent people and destroying public and private property in the province of Aden. Furthermore, they gave the President an ultimatum to deliver what they want (which means the country would get into a tragic situation similar to that suffered by the Syrian and Iraqi peoples) or face the Houthis’ hostilities, look for military support to restore the balance and bring stability to the homeland.

The President had no option but to use his constitutional powers, and act also on the basis of Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, and the Convention on the common defense of the Arab League, and the Convention on the Taif, renewed in Jeddah Convention of 2000, to request support from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and other Arab countries as well as the Security Council.

The President’s request was answered promptly by the GCC, led by the King of Saudi Arabia, and launched the Decisive Storm operation.

We offer our thanks, appreciation and support for the coalition countries, led by Saudi Arabia, who have responded to the request of the of the country’s legitimate President, who is responsible for the protection, security, stability and safety of the homeland and its people as well as the country’s resources.

We are hopeful that this operation will succeed in putting the country on back on the right track, out of the crisis caused by the Houthis and their allies who bear full responsibility for all the consequences and repercussions of this operation.

We also hope that this will lead to the return of the political process and serious and responsible dialogue for the implementation of the national dialogue outputs agreed unanimously by all political forces in earlier deep dialogues.

What remains now is the implementation of the outputs of the dialogue and the completion of the rest of the Gulf initiative terms – the only safe way out for the country from the crisis in which we live today.

Meanwhile, we condemn in the strongest terms retaliatory behavior and devastating vengeful action by forces affiliated with Ali Saleh and the Houthis, that stood against the popular peaceful change process carried out by the Yemeni people and accepted to be a pawn in the campaign of violence and the Iranian game of domination of our country and our people. We hold them fully responsible for any outcome of the situation in our beloved country.
