Israel prevents prisoners from sitting secondary school exams

The Israeli Prison Service is preventing Palestinian prisoners from sitting the high school exams, known as the tawjihi, for the third year in a row.
Riayd Al-Ashqar, the spokesman for the Palestinian Committee for Prisoners’ Defense, said that the Israeli Prison Service prevented in 2009 more than 1800 detainee from sitting the high school exams, adding that only few detainees were allowed to sit the exams in 2008.
The Israeli Prison Service delayed the entry of school books, besides sent several student detainees to solitary confinement, Al-Ashqar added.
The Israeli Prison Service intended this year to prevent all the detainees from sitting the high school exams, he said. Source
