Israel to boycott UN team sent to probe its brutal attack on Flotilla
OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, Israel said it would not deal with the team of experts dispatched by the UN international council for human rights to investigate its deadly attack on the Freedom Flotilla aid convoy.
According to Haaretz newspaper, the Israeli government intends to boycott the probe team at the pretext that the UN human rights council’s actions are hostile to the state of Israel and any cooperation with it would confer legitimacy on this council.
The newspaper said the Israeli government confirmed its intention to deal with another UN team to discuss the conclusions reached by its probe committee and the Turkish side.
The UN human rights council had named a panel of experts Friday to be sent to Turkey, Gaza and Israel to investigate whether Israel’s deadly raid on the Gaza-bound aid convoy violated the international law and urged the Hebrew state to cooperate.
“This is not about finger-pointing, it is about establishing the facts of what took place because the incident was humanitarian tragedy and it is in the interests of everyone,” council president Sihasak Phuangketkeow said.
“So I am hoping and I’m urging all the parties concerned to render their full cooperation, because it is in their interests and it is in the interests of the international community as a whole.”
