Israel urges its nationals to leave Sinai immediately
The so-called counter-terrorism bureau, affiliated with the Israeli premier’s office, on Tuesday evening issued urgent calls on all Israelis in Egypt, especially in Sinai Peninsula, to leave the country immediately.
The bureau said that it issued the warning because of increased threats of killing or kidnapping of Israelis in the region.
Earlier in the evening, there had been rumors of an Israeli kidnapped in Sinai, though Israeli counter-terrorism officials could not confirm them.
Press reports indicated that despite the bureau’s recommendations the number of Israelis who traveled to Sinai on the occasion of the Jewish Passover was more than last year on the same occasion, adding that almost 69,000 Israelis crossed the Taba terminal during that holiday.
