Israeli Ambassador to Leave Cairo with His Wife after Espionage Revealed
The Israeli ambassador to Egypt, Yitzhak Levanon, left Cairo on Wednesday back to Tel Aviv with his wife, following Monday’s announcement of the discovery of an Israeli spy ring in Egypt. The ambassador has neither announced the details behind his departure nor the date of his return to Cairo.
The Israeli Ambassador completed his check-in procedures to board a Tel Aviv-bound El Al plane and had to wait for more than 40 minutes at the V.I.P. lounge until well past boarding time.
Prosecutor, General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, ordered the referral of the three accused defendants, two Israeli fugitives and a detained Egyptian, to the Emergency State Security Court on charges of spying for Israel and harming the country’s national interests.
