Israeli court elongates Palestinian MP Abu Tair’s sentence

“The case was postponed until next Monday because we were informed that there is a possibility to discuss a phrasing which is acceptable to all on the Zionist Minister of Interior’s decision to deport the MPs from Jerusalem,” said Qawasemi in a press statement, declining to give clarification on the phrasing under discussion.

Jerusalem MPs Ahmad Attoun, Mohammed Toutah, and former Minister Khaled Abu Arafa have now been sitting-in at the International Red Cross headquarters in Jerusalem for their fourth consecutive day.

Head of the international campaign for the release of abducted MPs and Hamas lawmaker Mushir al-Masri described the extension of Abu Tair’s detetnion, who is being prosecuted for failure to comply with the Zionist decision to deport him and his fellow Jerusalemites, as an act of criminality and terrorism in dealing with the elected representatives of the Palestinian people.

Masri, in a press statement on Sunday, stressed the need for an international pressure on Israel to stop its dangerous scheme to uproot Jerusalemites from their holy city, starting with the removal of three of their representatives.

In a related development, the international campaign commented that the four-month extension of administrative detention against MP Abdul-Jaber Al-Fuqaha for the fourth time in a row, is an alarm bell that marks an increase in Israel’s arrogance in their response to the democratic choice of the Palestinian people, who chose their representatives in the fairest elections the whole world has ever witnessed.

The Israeli court recently renewed the administrative detention of a number of Palestinian MPs, including Nizar Ramadan, Dr. Azzam Salhab, Baasim Zarir, Ayman Daraghma, and Jamal Tirawi.

The international campaign called on Arab and Islamic parliaments and international parliamentary institutions to take on their share of responsibility to take practical steps against Israel in putting an end to its crimes against Palestinian MPs.
