Jordanian MB Calls for Immediate Release of Detained Ikhwan
Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood offshoot in Jordan Salem el Flahat on Saturday August 26, 2006, called on the Egyptian government to immediately release the Ikhwan leaderships which it detained yesterday, especially the ailed ones such as sheikh Lashin Abu Shanab who is over 80 years old, as well as Group Secretary General Dr. Mahmoud Ezzat, Dr. Essam el Eryan and other MB members detained in the Egyptian prisons. He also called the government to resort to reason and logic and observe the national interest. In an exclusive statement to Ikhwanweb, Flahat praised the MB leaderships detained Friday, saying that all people witness that they are patriotic and devoted. He lamented this series of detentions “especially at this juncture in which the nation is targeted in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine, and we don’t know who will be the next target. This makes incumbent on us to close ranks and benefit from all official and popular efforts in confrontation of this threat against the nation “, he said, adding that internal disputes work only in favor of Israel. He decried the imprisonment of those men of whom the nation is in dire need. On the very end of the incessant and ruthless campaign of detentions launched by the Egyptian authorities against the group, the Jordanian MB Chairman said that there is a worldwide campaign against Islam and Muslims especially against the Muslim Brotherhood, holding the extremist right in the US and Israel responsible for this campaign, citing the statements of President Bush who dreams of a crusade war on the region. “ A good example of this campaign is that the campaigners demand an American Islam and a European Islam, mistakenly thinking that Islam is tailored by people according to their wishes and whims”, he said .
Flahat decried the recurrent detention of the Muslim Brotherhood which has reached out to even yearlong patients such as Ustaz Lashin Abu Shanab, as well as Dr. Mahmoud Ezzat and Dr. Essam and others. However, he said that these detentions will not dissuade the group from proceeding with their true, patriotic path and its great mission whatever sacrifices are.
