Judge Abdel Fattah Murad: More fabricated cases, appeals to block more websites

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (HRinfo) stated that the judge Abdel Fatah Murad added – in addition to the 21 websites he demanded blocking and appealed before the Administrative Judiciary Court – 29 more websites, in which the total became 50 websites.

Moreover, the judge brings a new suit against Gamal Eid HRinfo’s Executive Director, Ahmed Seif El Islam Executive Director of Hisham Mubarak law Center and Amr Gharbia administrator of the celebrate blog “Holiat Saheb Al-Ashgar”. The Public Prosecution undertakes the investigation and the judge accused the three of blackmailing him and demanding 50 thousands pounds.

On Saturday 5 May 2007, the Administrative Judiciary Court has continued investigating in the suit of blocking 21 blogs and human rights and news websites on the internet. Now the judge who sued amended his demands by adding 29 websites to the previous list though the total now is 50 websites (the complete list of websites attached).

HRinfo surprisingly find out that its Executive Director Gamal Eid, Executive Director of Hisham Mubarak Law Center Ahmed Seif El Islam and the celebrate blogger Amr Gharbia summoned for investigation in a new fabricated case sued by the judge Abdel Fatah Murad. He said that the three blackmailed him and forced him to publish information defaming Egypt’s reputation.

The following are the three cases are the total number of cases sued by the judge against HRinfo and its supporters:

Defamation against “Gamal Eid, Alaa Seif and Manal Bahey El Dein Hassan”

Blocking 50 websites (human rights – news – blogs)

Blackmailing against “Gamal Eid, Ahmed Seif and Amr Gharbia”

The sued cases carry out contradictions and accusations such as:

Hrinfo defends the blogger Karim Amer and Al-Jazeera reporter Howaida Taha

Claims that the blackmailing campaign against the judge due to bill he presented to limit the blogs’ activities on the internet

States that the websites are terrorist and blaspheme Egypt and Arab leaders’ reputation and brings offense to the president of the republic

Al-Ghad Party website owned by Ayman Nour belongs and funded by HRinfo

The judge claims his cooperation with organizations such as Reporters Without Boarders, Human Rights Watch, International Freedom of Expression Exchange and Amnesty International, and then he starts accusing them

HRinfo considers the continuity of the campaign launched by the judge against it and on freedom of expression is an attempt to turn the eyes from his illegal transferring to HRinfo’s report on the internet and misstating it. Moreover, HRinfo has started the procedures of removing the judge’s immunity to prosecute him for this transplant. It is quite clear the judge’s close cooperation and the joined interest between the security apparatus, which provide him information, help him to attack bloggers and human rights organizations defending freedom of expression and opinion. The case seems to be a conflict between the judge in one section and HRinfo, Hisham Mubarak Law Center and bloggers in another section.
