Judge Abdel-Salam Gomaa, Long History of Injustice

Is it a coincidence that Judge Adel Abdel-Salam Gomaa, who ruled to uphold freezing the MB assets, ruled in favor of the government in many high profile cases?

The ill-reputed judge who sentenced Ayman Nour to five years of hard labor on trumped up charges of forgery, is the same one who found American University in Cairo professor Saad Eddin Ibrahim guilty of defamation three years ago.  He convicted Ayman Nour, Ghad Party leader, although the prosecutor”s witnesses admitted that their confessions were cohersed under government”s pressure.

Judge Abdel-Salam Gomaa became the government henchman in the court to get ride of trouble making opposition leaders and save the government a lot of headache. The funny thing is that the notorious judge issued his verdict to uphold the freeze without even hearing the defense argument! He refused to allow the defense an access to companies shut down by the government to bring documents which would have helped to prove the innocence of the MB businessmen of all the fabricated money laundry charges.

Judge Abdel Salam Gomaa was very adamant that the case of MB leaders on trial would not leave his hands. When he adjourned the trial”s first session, he made sure that the new date falls on a day when he would be presiding over the bench.

The MB has made it clear, the government”s fierce offensive against its leaders and financial structure is not the first of its kind and simply will not succeed to cripple the organization or its ability to compete in any upcoming elections. The MB will continue its pursuit of reform through peaceful and legal channels no matter how ruthless the regime can get in its oppression against opposition
