Junta Judiciary Deals Out Death Sentences to Muslim Brotherhood Chairman, 13 Leaders

A Cairo Criminal Court session, held at the Police Academy in Torah (south of Cairo), has issued mass death sentences against 14 opposition leaders including Dr. Badie, Dr. Ghozlan and Salah Sultan, in the sham trial known as the "Rabaa sit-in operations room" lawsuit, in which the Muslim Brotherhood chairman and 50 other leaders and members are accused of various trumped-up crimes.

The Court set a session for April 11 to pronounce the final judgment on the death penalty against:

Dr. Mohamed Badie, Dr. Mahmoud Ghozlan, Hossam Abu-Bakr, Mostafa Al-Ghoneimy, Saad Al-Husseini, Abdel-Raouf Shalaby, Salah Sultan, Izz Al-Din Omar, Saad Amara, Mohamed Mohammadi, Fathi Ibrahim, Salah Bilal, Mohamed Shehabeddin, Mossaad Barbary, and Abdel-Rahim Mohamed Abdul-Rahim.

The death sentences were issued by Judge Mohamed Nagi Shehata and the justices Yasser Yassin and Abdel-Rahman Safwat Al-Husseini.

Following the verdict, the defendants chanted: "Down with military rule".
