Kifaya Activist Arrested in Mansoura
The State Security Police at Mansoura, 150km north of Cairo , arrested Muhammad Abdel Latif, Kifaya (Enough) Movement member at Mansoura. Abdel Latif is also correspondent of Al-Badil newspaper in Mansouar and administrator of the weblog Youth for the sake of reform, kolo.modawanati.com.
The State Security forces arrested Muhammad Abdel Latif, 19 years, previously detained during judges incidents, yesterday and seized with him papers about tortures, including the man killed in Tilbanah and child of Shaha district who were tortured to death in Dakahlia.
Muhammad Abdel Latif was accused of possessing leaflets that harm the country’s public security and peace. The state security stuffed other leaflets that it prepared and printed to add them to the charges directed against Mohamed.
Mansoura prosecution ordered Muhammad Abdel Latif jailed for 15 days pending investigation. He is currently detained in Mansoura first police station.
Kifaya Movement in Mansoura declared in the words of its coordinator in Dakahlia, engineer Hamdi Al Qenawi, that the movement has prepared a donation committee for Mohamed and the committee is ready to receive donations.
Kifaya Movement in Mansoura declared that it will hold a vigil to protest at the continuous tortures committed against citizens. It demands officers involved in such crimes of tortures stand trial. The vigil will be held on Wednesday, August, 22nd, 2007 in front of the courts complex beside Mansoura stadium at 11.00AM in the morning, while officer Mohamed Moawad who is accused of killing Tilbanah victim appears before he prosecution.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time in which security forces attack journalists. Ghada Abdul Hafez, the correspondent of Al-Masri Al-Yom Newspaper in Dakahlia and correspondent of Al-Arabi Al-Nasser in Dakahlia were beaten and threatened with detention while covering Tilbanah incidents .
