Lawyers Freedom Committee calls for separation of imprisoned senior officials
The Freedoms Committee in the Lawyers Syndicate submitted a complaint to Attorney General Abdul Magid Mahmoud, in which it demanded the distribution of symbols of the former regime in different prisons instead of imprisoning them together in Tora prison.
The complaint stated that the imprisonment of ministers and other senior figures from the former regime together in one place will permit them to prepare for a counter-revolution.
The group was charged with indictments ranging from inciting the killing of protesters to wasting public funds,
The lawyers argued that their incarceration in one prison assists them to make contact with the few supporters of the corrupt regime outside, especially with the availability of new technology. They added, furthermore uniting them together may affect the investigations conducted by the General Prosecution.
The Freedoms Committee called for their separation and placing in different prisons or in solitary confinement demanding they should be treated like other prisoners who are detained pending investigations.
