Lawyers hold Press Conference Discussing Violations Against Candidates

The lawyers syndicate’s Freedoms Committee held a press conference on Sunday at noon to expose security abuses against opposition candidates.
The conference discussed violence involving police officials against candidates and their supporters and its consequences on the legitimacy of the elections.
Jamal al-Tag al-Din, secretary general of the Freedoms Committee maintained that the commission has been monitoring the breaches and is greatly concerned with the continuing violence against candidates from the Muslim Brotherhood. He indicated that the incidents which took place on Friday in the governorates of Alexandria, Sharqiya and Daqahliya must be immediately investigated, stressing that the commission believes it is imperative that those responsible be held accountable, adding that these unfortunate events threaten the legitimacy of the elections.
Al-Tag al-Din emphasized that the time has come for the attorney-general to assume his legitimate responsibility and ensure that the elections are unhampered by the interior ministry. He added that the Supreme Committee for Elections is responsible for protecting the electoral procedures.
