Lawyers Nomination Doors Open On November 22
South Cairo Court Head and Professional Syndicate Election Supervisor Judge Farouk Sultan decided yesterday, November 9 to open nomination doors for Lawyers Syndicate elections on November 22 provided that elections be held on January 28, 2009.
From his part, Lawyer Rajani “Attia who is running for Syndicate President said that the memos he had been sending the Cairo Appellate Court Head, South Cairo Court Head, Minister of Justice, and Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs concerning opening nomination doors for syndicate elections was a major factor in the decision”s promptness. “Attia added that these memos also contributed in the issuing of the decision to construct four new primary courts: North Cairo Court, Helwan Court, Red Sea Court, and October 6th Court.
As for the Islamic Legislation Committee Spokesperson Lawyer Abdul-Mun”im Abdul-Maqsood, he welcomed the decision and considered it a positive step on the path of syndicate reform. Abdul-Maqsood also called on Lawyers not to challenge the South Cairo Court decision to avoid subjecting it to patrol. Abdul-Maqsood further announced that the Islamic Legislation committee will be holding a press conference today at noon in the Lawyers Syndicate headquarters.
