Lawyers Protest Against IJC Denial Of Medical Expenses For Lawyer

During their protest last Saturday before the Bar Association in Cairo, lawyers of Damietta threatened to sit in because the Interim Judicial Council (IJC) refused to pay EGP 40.000 medical expenses to Damietta’s Cancer Institute for the treatment of their fellow lawyer Abdu Sarhan.

Mohamed Bassal -member of Damietta’s Bar Association board- said that the IJC refused to pay EGP40.000 to Damietta’s Cancer Institute for the treatment of their fellow lawyer Abdu Sarhan claiming a budget deficit despite having accumulated sum mounting to more than 40 million Egyptian pounds of the Association’s fund in banks.

“We never want to repeat Shubra’s lawyer who passed away because the IJC also refused to pay his treatment fees. We will organize a sit-in till the IJC decides on the issue. Further, we will call on all lawyers to sit in inside the governorate premises and boycott court sessions if the fees are not paid,” he added.
