Live broadcasting devices of a satellite company are confiscated

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information stated today that the Egyptian government started in a dodging and cruel policy to thwart against space channel. This trend is represented in breaking through one of the most important satellite devices company and confiscating five of its broadcasting devices. This action is a serious step on the way of thwarting the live broadcasting of several space channels like, Al Jazera, Dubai , Qatar and French TV, etc.

Last Wednesday, the security forces broke through the headquarter of Cairo News Company and confiscated five live broadcasting devices without giving any considerable justifications. An investigation was done without approving any kind of offence and the devices remained kept by the security forces. the company has been working in the Egyptian market for four years. It offers the service of live broadcasting devices rent to about 40 space channels working in Egypt .

This comes in the context of cruel procedures aiming at thwarting against space channels. Three channels were banned namely Al Hiwar, Al Baraka, and Al Hikma. Moreover, there is a black campaign launched by the national party members working as editor-in-chiefs of the state-controlled newspapers against space channels, news programs and talk-show programs. The recent activity of this campaign was attacking a program entitled ” Cairo Today” broadcasted on Orbit channel.

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information commented by saying “Confiscating the broadcasting devices is a satanic behavior aiming at thwarting against space channels to prevent them from transferring directly the events taking place in Egypt .” “The Egyptian government is building a wall around Egyptian citizens and is imposing a frame of information blackout on them”, added the Arabic Network.

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information requested the Egyptian government to release these devices and stop all forms of direct and indirect thwarting against the freedom of space broadcasting and the freedom of information handling. The Network also requested the government to stop the shameful practices instead of covering them by miserable means of information blackout.
