Marines captain from 45 Commando admits Afghan assault
A SCOTS-BASED Royal Marines officer has pleaded guilty to assaulting an Afghan national while serving in the country, according to a court martial spokesman.
Captain Jody Wheelhouse, from 45 Commando, based at Arbroath in Scotland, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm to 48-year-old Mohammad Ekhlas on March 19 this year.
In the same hearing at Bulford Court Martial Centre in Wiltshire, Sergeant Mark Leader, of the Commando Training Centre in Lympstone, Devon, pleaded not guilty to the same charge.
Judge Advocate Alistair McGrigor adjourned the case until February 8 next year when a seven-day court martial involving Sgt Leader will commence at HMS Nelson in Portsmouth.
Capt Wheelhouse is expected to be sentenced at the conclusion of Sgt Leader’s trial
