MB Candidates in Lawyers Elections Have More Potentials for Winning: Rights Groups

One World Foundation for Development and Civil Society Improvement and Maat for juridical and constitutional studies said Monday that although the last amendment of the New Bar Association Code was meant to obstruct the arrival of Muslim Brothers to the Syndicate Council and to ensure that they will lose the majority of seats, the opportunity of MB candidates are greater.

With the nomination of large numbers of contestants in the constituencies of Courts of First Instance with only one representative for MB, or two in big governorates as Cairo, Giza and Alexandria, the opportunity for Muslim Brothers to win is greater.

In their statement on their supervision of the Bar Association elections, the two rights groups said that since the registration phase till the candidacy began all the candidates were upset, frustrated, desperate, unconfident and reluctant, they fear even the propaganda. The posters did not seem usual, the majority did not distribute any of their fliers and many conferences were not even held.

They stated that these elections are very intense in many governorates, especially when the choice of representatives became decentralized; this means that every constituency chooses its candidate unlike in the past where every Appeals Court had a member for its constituency.
