MB chairman meets with candidates for Shura Council

Muslim Brotherhood chairman Dr. Mohamed Badie is expected to meet with the 13 MB Shura Council candidates early next week
Many analysts consider the Shura Council elections, which will take place June 1st, a test of government promises of voting transparency and a sign of what yet to come during the more highly contested Peoples’ Assembly and presidential elections in 2011
Despite of president Mubarak assurances, opposition candidates have faced numerous obstacles and intimidations during the nomination process. Security forces continue to make arbitrary arrests among opposition candidates’ supporters and campaign staffers, and forcing candidates to cancel campaign stops
The government already failed on its promises to restrict emergency laws to terrorism and drug trafficking, and continue to target political opponents and suppress freedom of speech
