MB House Bloc Holds Press Conference Tuesday Over Shura Detentions

The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) parliamentary bloc will hold, on Tuesday at 11.00AM CLT, a press conference on 2007 Shura Council midterm elections entitled ” Setbacks, Obstacles” to discuss the Interior Ministry’s violations, harassments and detentions against MB candidates and their supporters during election campaigns.
Dr. Hamdi Hassan, the media spokesman of the MB bloc, confirmed that security violations against the group’s candidates and their supporters crossed all limits. ” It is as if the Shura Council elections are held without any opposition candidate after all these detentions and violations” said Hassan.
It is the first of its kind to see candidates arrested during election campaign. The number of detainees among supporters of the MB candidates is up to 400 detainees, and it is on the rise, let alone the security pressures to prevent and remove all means of campaigning and contact carried out by the candidates with people” said Dr Hassan.
He added that the Shura elections are the worst expected scenario. It confirms previous expectations that the regime seeks an opposition free in the coming Shura council and in any coming elections. The ruling National Democratic party is actually competing with itself and there is no opposition to compete, not to mention winning.
The Muslim Brotherhood MP stressed that the MB candidates will not backtrack from running for elections whatever the pressures they face, and the Egyptian people and all world will see the real ugly face of the regime and its false claims of holding fair elections.
