MB leader Abdel Moneim Abul Futuh’s health at risk

Dr. Abdel Moneim Abul Futuh, Member of the Executive Bureau of the Muslim Brotherhood, and Secretary-General of the Arab Doctors Union, stated that his life will be endangered if he is to remain detained in Tora Prison.  The high temperature in his prison cell is unsuitable for his artificial respirator to function properly. He needs the respirator to ease his breathing during his sleep.

Abu Fotouh yesterday explained to the Supreme State Security Prosecution that he is unable to sleep due to the disruption of the respiratory device. He cannot sleep without the device as he suffers from a rare medical condition requiring the continual running of the appliance during his sleep where the heat should be low.  He is accustomed to adjusting the heat at his own home during sleep as he controls the temperature using the air conditioner.

It is worth mentioning that this device needs to be inspected annually and its’ maintenance and checkup is due on July 20th.  The only place authorized to check the device is Birmingham’s City Hospital in the United Kingdom. Abou Futuh continued that the authorities will be held responsible in the case of his death since his health is deteriorating in prison.

The Supreme State Security Prosecution decided Abul Fotouh and the four Muslim Brotherhood defendants remain in custody for a further fifteen days under investigations in the case of the alleged international network of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Abul Fotouh declined answering the prosecution’s questions, claiming that all the accusations reported in the SSI investigation records were similar to the indictments that he had previously been charged with and tried before in the military tribunal in 1995.
