MB leader ascertains group will voice dissent over poll peacefully, legally and constitutionally

Following the farcical parliamentary poll held in Egypt opposition groups have highlighted that it may take its political struggle to the streets in an attempt to expose the ruling regime for what it really is.

The polls marred with riggings and arrogant fraud succeeded in excluding opposition from the chamber and failed to reflect Egypt’s opposition or the will of voters, revealing the authorities intention to monopolize parliament and maintain its tight grip on its members and to ensure the movement was ejected from parliament.

According to Dr. Mohamed Badie chairman of the MB the group will continue in its call for political reform only through peaceful methods. The following steps and methods have not been decided yet however the leader ascertains that the MB has always and always will advocate peace since the principle of Islam follows only the peaceful ideology. He said the Brotherhood has extended its hand and will join other opposition groups in voicing their dissent legally and constitutionally.

Rights groups and opposition parties ascertain that the election result was secured using ballot stuffing and intimidation through methods such as arbitrary arrests. Badie maintained that the parliament ‘elected’ will distort Egypt’s image and will ultimately pass legislation that is undoubtedly harmful to Egypt’s interests.

In a country where demonstrations are tightly controlled and state security acts fast to break up any protest the coming days will be a challenge for government critics and steps have not been decided yet by the group which is officially banned despite enjoying wide popularity. Rights groups slam the emergency law, enforced since 1981, as it helps authorities stifle dissent and keep protestors off the streets.

Although other political opposition groups have called for civil disobedience Badie has said the group has yet to study that option. He added however he believes activities will continue to escalate.
