MB MP demands “Mercedes” bribe officials be investigated

An urgent appeal to the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding information disclosed by the US government and the Mercedes Company was submitted by Muslim Brotherhood deputy Hamdy Hassan. The US government alleged that bribes were offered to “senior” Egyptian officials to facilitate imports from the company.

The US government imposed a fine of $185 US million on the company as a result of breaching the regulations of competitiveness and transparency in the market.

Hassan questioned  the Egyptian government’s silence against the accusations of its senior officials, stressing immediate investigation was necessary in addition to  naming and holding the concerned  official accountable adding that “Accepting bribes and any individual involved should be shamed in public in an effort to thwart further incident of illegal bribes”
