MB Refutes Rumours of Fielding Presidential Candidate
The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt denies all speculations that the group is planning to field any MB member in the upcoming presidential elections, including Dr. Abdul Monem Abul Fotouh.
It confirms that although it has established its political Freedom and Justice Party and will nominate members in the parliamentary elections, it has no plans to put forward a candidate to stand in presidential elections.
MB leaders have repeatedly stressed that the group has no ambitions to run for the presidency, highlighting that it is not looking for domination but rather seeks participation in the political arena.
Ikhwanweb has been unable to contact Dr. Abul Fotouh regarding media reports of his decision to run.
However, he had stated before that if candidates running for presidency fail to offer a platform calling for creating a civil state with Islamic references, he may run for the post and in this case he will have to withdraw his MB membership.
