MB supporters organize protest condemning arrests and renewed detentions

The city of Mansoura witnessed wide condemnations during a protest which took place following the renewed detention of 6 Muslim Brotherhood leaders who were arrested last week.

Members of the MB have faced escalating animosity by security forces after the group’s chairman, Dr. Mohamed Badie, announced that the group would participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for November 28.

Hundreds of protestors raised banners and shouted slogans voicing their contempt at the arrests calling on the government to release its stronghold and to respect freedom of expression.

Since the announcement by Badie, over 170 MB members, leaders and supporters have faced arbitrary arrests and over 90 MB establishments and businesses have been unjustly closed down. The detained MB members have faced the same fabricated accusations which, in recent years, have become commonplace.

Today’s detainees were given a 15-day renewed detention order on the grounds that investigations are still under way.
