Mesha’al: Hamas Will Pursue Peace Initiatives

Currently in Cairo, Khaled Meshal, the head of Hamas Political Bureau, said his group will consult with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt over the new government. A joint meeting with the Brotherhood’s leaders may be called, subsequently.

Following a meeting with Amr Mussa, the General Secretary of the Arab League, Meshal stated that Hamas will set up a coalition government. As for the future of the peace process with Israel, Meshal expressed his group’s willingness to pursue the peace initiatives, saying Hamas ’will be pragmatic and will show the necessary political flexibility.’

Meantime, the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, hailed the mechanism that brought Hamas in office. ’Undoubtedly, the U.S. will welcome Hamas if it abandons its declared aim of abolishing Israel,’ Blair remarked.

On an unprecedented step, the British Anglican Church resolved to embargo companies that help Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories. Two days ago, the majority of the Synods voted for a project of ’withdrawing investments’ from ’companies that yield profits out of the illegitimate Israeli occupation of Palestine.’
