Meshaal Congratulates Morsi on FJP Victory in Legislative Elections

Dr. Mohamed Morsi, Chairman of Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), received on Saturday (January 21, 2012) Mr. Khaled Meshaal, head of Hamas’ political bureau, who offered his sincere congratulations to the FJP on its victory in the Egyptian legislative elections. Meshaal wished the FJP continued progress for the benefit of Egypt, hailing the important role played by Egypt in supporting the Palestinian cause, both public support that has continued since the Israeli occupation, and political support embodied in assistance to end Palestinian division and the lifting of the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

For his part, Dr. Morsi thanked Meshaal, stressing that the Palestinian issue was, is and will remain in the hearts of the Egyptian people, particularly the FJP, especially since it was one of the key drivers of the Revolution of the Egyptian people who rejected the actions and stances of the former regime towards the Palestinian cause, especially the brave resistance against the occupation.

Dr. Morsi added that the party will endeavor in all areas to support the Palestinian cause and its pending files on the establishment of a Palestinian state on all the occupied territories, with Jerusalem as its capital, as well as the right of return for refugees, but first of all will wholeheartedly support Egypt’s actions to facilitate Palestinian reconciliation and end divisions.

From the FJP side, the meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, Secretary General of the party, and Dr. Essam El-Erian, FJP Vice Chairman, and Dr. Osama Yassin, Assistant Secretary-General, as well as Hussein Mohamed Ibrahim, Dr. Ahmed Diab, Dr. Farid Ismail and Dr. Ali Ezz Eddin, members of the FJP’s Executive Office, and from Hamas, Mr. Mohamed Nasr.
