Message from Son of Detained Journalist Ahmed Ezzuddin

Message from Son of Detained Journalist Ahmed Ezzuddin

The following message was sent from Omar Ezzuddin, the son of journalist Ahmed Ezzuddin, who is currently jailed, and has been transferred to a military tribunal, pending the trial of some Muslim Brotherhood leaders.

This the text of the message

We- family of the currently detained journalist Ahmed Ezzuddin- are following up how the Interior Ministry is breaking, and even defying, court rulings, due to the fact that there is no other power over this ministry to oblige to comply to these rulings.

On Jaunary 29, the New Cairo Criminal Court acquitted my father along with fifteen Muslim Brotherhood leaders who were jailed pending the latest Muslim Brotherhood case. The chief judge said in his ruling that the release must take place immediately and without any delay.

Imagine and picture the feelings of this group returning to Torah farm prison- supposed to be an administrative procedure- and expecting that they would be released on the same day or on the following day, waiting for this moment when they get united with their children and loved ones, and return back to their normal life.

My ill father who developed a slipped disc to the extent that he wasn’t able to attend the court session on foot; so they brought him a chair and the security soldiers had to carry him

Picture this scene as well; when the car carrying them arrived at the gate of the Torah farm prison, the group wasn’t allowed to get out of the car for a while, for an unknown reason, which became known later; they were waiting for the arrival of the arrest warrants. The group was surprisingly thrown again behind bars without even telling them their legal status, although Article 3 “bis” of this very emergency law stipulates that any one arrested must be immediately informed of the reasons for arresting him and he has the right to tell any one he wants about what happens.

It wasn’t limited to issuing an arrest warrant, we were stunned thereafter by president Mubarak’s decision of transferring their case to a military tribunal, throwing us, along with families of the other detainees, in a dark tunnel of anxiety and fear which we don’t know its end as much as we don’t when our father, and other detainees, will be released.
I ask Allah to make their release so soon to enjoy their warm care tender love.

Omar Ahmed Ezzuddin

For his part, Mr. Mohamed Abdul Qoddous, the secretary general of the freedoms committee in the Egyptian Press Syndicate said:" This message shows how far families of the detainees are suffering, especially the family of fellow journalist Ahmed Ezzuddin whose serious illness didn’t move the feelings of the cruel regime or make it only respect justice and carry out the court ruling of releasing him.

Abdul Qoddous said that president Mubarak vetted media boast that his era hasn’t witnessed persecuting any journalist while the seriously ill journalist Ahmed Ezzuddin is detained on groundless and fabricated charges!!.

Abdul Qoddous confirmed that freedoms and human rights are seriously retreating in Egypt in a way that returns us to eras of darkness and absolute dictatorship, amid the silence of the US administration.
