Mishaal: We are ready for any honest, transparent elections.

“We in Hamas would respect results of any honest elections even if we lost it because  democracy is a 50/50 win lose game it is either for you or against you … we have no problem in that … this a law that we should all respect”, underlined Mishaal in an interview with the Russia Today newspaper Wednesday February 10″.

Mishaal also stressed the need for achieving the Palestinian national reconciliation describing it as a “national necessity”, but he confirmed that the current rift was extraordinary and prompted by foreign interventions.

“Although Hamas prefers the national reconciliation to be made by the Palestinians themselves, we have no objection to any sincere Arab or foreign effort in this regard”, Mishaal underscored.

Shifting to another issue, the Hamas leader differentiated between the European stand and the USA stand towards the Palestinian question, noting that the European stand has become more mature and realistic due to the growing state of anger against the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip.

“Although the European role was still confined to humanitarian assistance along with delegations coming to visit the besieged Gaza Strip, we look forward to a strong and fair European political role in the region”, he emphasized.

Mishaal reiterated his Movement’s acceptance to a settlement based on the establishment of an independent  Palestinian state on the borders of the 4th of June, 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital, in addition to recognizing all Palestinian and Arab legal rights, including the right of return for the Palestinian refugees.
