Missing in Action: The Democracy Agenda in the Middle East
Mohammad Yaghi, Lafer international fellow with The Washington Institute, focusing on Palestinian politics. He is the author of Understanding the Hamas Agenda, and a native of Ramallah. From the time of the Cold War policy of propping up dictators to the current failing democratization efforts, U.S. meddling in the Middle East has nearly always produced harmful results. If it hopes to succeed, according to Washington Institute Fellow Mohammad Yaghi, the U.S. government must first establish peace. Only after peace, he explains, will freedom and democracy ensue.
